’Absence’: an immensely powerful photo project

Photographer Gustavo Germano has dedicated a photo project to the people who disappeared without a trace in Argentina and Brazil during the years in which these countries were ruled by military dictatorships. He recreated scenes from the photo albums of 25 different families, taking shots of them in the same places many years later. The effect is such that your immediate impression is one of someone orphaned or abandoned — for in all of these images, no family remains whole.

Over a period of seven years, 30,000 people disappeared.

We at WeGoRo invite you to take a look at some of the images from this outstanding project — one which reminds us how the passage of time can change everything.
