Cars are very expensive, and many people have to work for years to be able to afford one. However, it takes less than 60 seconds for a thief to steal your car.
We at WeGoRo would like to restore justice and tell you about the tricks that thieves use to steal cars and how to protect yourself from them.
Thieves usually choose nighttime to steal a car because there are fewer people around and the owner is very unlikely to show up.
Even if you don’t have a child, consider buying a baby monitor. You can put it in your car to have a live feed of what’s going on inside. Baby monitors have night vision and audio, so if someone tries to break into your car, you will be alerted immediately. And the best thing about such devices is that you can capture the appearance of the thief. So even if your car gets stolen, the police will know who to look for.
Experienced thieves need just a few seconds to start almost any car — but not one without power.
A kill switch is a device that interrupts power to the engine, making it impossible to start a car until you disable it. There are usually several hidden kill switches in cars, so it will take a thief a very long time to find all of them. Hopefully, the thief won’t take the risk and just escape. The only problem with kill switches is that it’s not easy to install one yourself. So if you don’t have the best wiring skills, we recommend that you see a mechanic.
Thieves are very good drivers, but even they can’t control a car without a steering wheel.
That’s why we recommend that you get a removable wheel installed. Yes, it does look weird to come to a date or a business meeting with a steering wheel in your hands, but come on! It’s your precious car!
No thief will go for a car that has a tire lock on it. It’s just too much work. Police put tire locks on cars that are illegally parked. But if you can’t drive your car with it, it means that neither can a thief. The only problem with tire locks is that it takes time to put them on. So it’s only convenient when you are parking overnight or for a long time.
Car thieves try to get away from a crime scene as fast as possible, and they usually try to stay under the radar for a while. However, there is still a way to make things way easier for the police: put a GPS tracker somewhere inside your car. Thieves don’t have much time, so they often don’t get a chance to look around and search for trackers. Such devices can transmit signals even from areas with no cellular signal, so the chances of recovering a stolen vehicle are quite high.
Some people use this trick to open doors if they trapped their keys inside...or to steal somebody else’s car. All you need is a piece of string and a few minutes. The thing is, if you have a newer model car (without a keyhole in the door), there is one less technique that thieves can use to steal it.
A popular internet trick suggests that you can open a car with a plunger. However, it’s just a myth: the sucking force of a plunger isn’t enough to crack open the door of a car. Only if you use around 10 plungers at once might you be able to force the lock open. But we have no idea how or even why you would actually do this.
